Pornography Addiction Therapy in Charleston and Mount Pleasant, SC

Many individuals, particularly men, experience shame or discomfort when it comes to discussing sexual behavior, pornography use, or other sexual concerns. This often leads to suffering in silence, as if holding a deep, dark secret. The fear of judgment or exposure can feel overwhelming, leaving individuals isolated and struggling privately. If this resonates with you, know that therapy offers a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore these challenges.

I also emphasize sex positivity in my work, which helps clients gain insight into their needs, desires, and healthy boundaries. Discussing sexual health openly can empower clients to better understand themselves and make choices that align with their values.

Important Disclosures

While I welcome clients from all walks of life, I do not provide court-mandated treatment or work with individuals involved in the legal system for sexual offenses, including sex offender treatment. If you are seeking services in these areas, I am happy to provide referrals within the Charleston and Mount Pleasant community. Additionally, I am not a certified sex therapist.

Understanding the Challenges

Sexual behaviors or struggles, including pornography use, can impact emotional well-being, relationships, and self-esteem. Many clients feel shame or guilt, believing they must manage these concerns alone. Therapy provides a confidential, supportive environment where clients can process these experiences without fear of judgment.

The goal of therapy in this area is not shame or suppression, but understanding, self-compassion, and meaningful change. By exploring sexual behaviors and patterns openly, clients can build healthier relationships with themselves and others.

My Approach to Therapy

I use a combination of evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to each client’s needs:

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI): Helps clients explore ambivalence, create meaningful change, and decrease unwanted behaviors while supporting autonomy.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Encourages reflection on behaviors in a structured, “play-by-play” manner to better understand triggers and patterns.

  • Sex-Positive Approach: Focuses on exploring sexual values, desires, and healthy expression without shame or judgment.

This integrative approach allows clients to gain clarity, develop coping strategies, and work toward healthier sexual behaviors while understanding themselves more fully.

Take the Next Step

If you are struggling with sexual behaviors, shame, or questions about sexual health, therapy can provide a safe, supportive environment to explore these issues. Together, we can work to increase understanding, develop healthier patterns, and foster self-compassion.
